I have had maintenance contract for my HVAC, plumbing and hot water tank with Reliance Home Comfort. About five weeks ago, I contacted for my AC. It does not work and it is only six years old. Their expert technician came as scheduled (8 to 1pm). The tech was indeed an expert. He quickly found through his diagnostic tool that my evaporator needs replacement. He indicated that it will easily take four to five days. So he told me to expect the AC working by the end of Friday or Saturday. That was FIVE WEEKS AGO. They did dispatch one tech a week ago but he was very upset that he was... More...

  • Not worth investing!!

A technician was sent and without doing any tests on AC asked about the age of our equipment.. He pushed to put us in contact with a friend of his that can give us a good offer on a new equipment.. I requested him to see the unit first.. Without any process he said that there is no gas in it then not worth fixing since the AC is 12 years old.. All argument didn't lead to any change.. We requested another technician to come and test the AC, but they sent the same person.. He again started pushing to send his friend to give us a quotation on a new equipment.. This was done while he was... More...

  • Reliance Home Comfort Shifty Business Practices

My uncle passed away a few months ago and being executor of his estate, found out he had been renting a furnace and air conditioner since April 2004. I called Reliance to find out what the buyout was on the equipment and was told it was $3,890. I asked for a copy of the contract that my uncle signed and kept getting promised it would be sent and still haven't received anything. In calculating out the payments, found that Reliance had charged my Uncle $17,000 in the 10 1/2 years he had been renting. Way to take advantage of seniors, they should be ashamed of themselves!!! I found a... More...

  • water heater rental

In 2014 we moved my 99 year old mother into a retirement facility and discovered she had been renting a water heater from these thieves for 10 years at a cost of $12 per month . We sold her house and tried to explain to reliance that the new owner did not want to rent the appliance and we would like to end the contract . After twenty odd phone calls and no return calls we finally got a lawyer and realtor involved on my Mother's behalf , to buy out the heater at a cost of $523 , GOOD RIDDANCE . The next month another $523 was removed from our Mother's pre-authorized payment account... More...

  • Water Heater Rental

Got a letter dated August 28th at my address with someone else's name? Called & was informed that I sold my house. I told them that I did not sell and to correct their error. Why wasn't this verified in the 1st place? Told it would be corrected. Later, received bill wanting account set-up fees, etc. Called again & was told that this will be fixed. This month received bill for late payment & admin. fees? Call them again and they gave me a $10 credit (which the charges would be deducted from). Waiting now to see if anything is rectified. Not holding my breath as... More...

  • Reliance Home comfort air conditioner and thermostat that do not work

Last October (2013) I spent over ten thousand dollars to install new air conditioner and furnace by Reliance Home Comfort. The air conditioner has not been working the whole summer. It does not bring down the temperature by even one degree after running for hours. The thermostat in also faulty and stops communicating after a few seconds after you touch it. I have been calling Reliance, then send a technician but nothing changes. They were going to ship me a new thermostat weeks ago which I have still not received. The have made some changes to the circuit board when they installed the... More...

  • Hot water tank

About 3 years ago there were two agents from Reliance Home Comfort knocked on my door and offered to replace my then retal tank. I agreed under the condition that I'll not sign any contract with them. So they replaced the tank. Feb. 2014 we bought a tank and returned the rental tank to the designated office according to Reliance's instruction. I then paid the rental fee up to the day we returned the tank. Then I started to receive bills from them. I called them to explain that the tanked was returned and I should not pay any rental fee. The bill keeps on coming and then phone... More...

  • Reliance Home Comfort

I can not believe the terrible customer service I just received from Reliance Home Comfort. I have received in the last month two notices thanking me for signing up for the protection plan at a cost of 15.24 a month in addition to what I am already paying to rent the water heater. The first time I called and told them that I NEVER signed up for such protection and they promptly removed it, a month later a get another letter thanking me for signing up I call and spend 20 minutes of the phone only to be told I must have agreed to it and I must pay it anyway. I demanded to speak to a... More...

  • Reliance Rental Water Heater

If you are thinking about renting from Reliance, DON'T DO IT. Twice I received an old water heater that leaked within a couple of years. The last time I checked the build date before it came off the truck. I told the repair person to "keep it". That 8 year old water is not coming into my house. Then I called Reliance to cancel my account and I bought a water heater and paid a plumber to install it. One year's rent from Reliance cost me approximately $200 and Reliance charged almost a full year's rent $176 to close the account. I bought a water heater with a 10 year... More...

  • cancelled rentals: hot water tank and furnace

My reliance home comfort water tank rental and furnace rental were both cancelled on october 10th, 2012, yet I had paid in advance for the remainder of the year. Reliance still billed me for january to march of 2013 for these pieces of equipment for a total of $170.22! Yet they owe me a refund for most of october, november and december of 2012! So I tried to have my local HVAC business (Wardlaw heating and cooling) who replaced the units contact them, which they had reliance stop billing me for future payments but my bill of $170.22 still exists with now a late payment of $5.10 and a... • Reliance Home Comfort BAD Service!!!!

Terrible Service!! You people call yourselves Reliance Home Comfort, well that is the very last thing my family and I experienced this weekend. I cannot for the life of me, understand how people can rely on you to provide such an important service such as heat and warm water in their homes in the heart of winter!! My wife is 40 weeks pregnant and can go into active labour any second, one prepares everything in your home apart from looking at your heat(only the most important thing in your home when you stay in northern Ontario!!) for the arrival of your first child. Friday night my heat... More...

  • Reliance rental scam

Garbage! the one word i would use to describe their product. The rental agreement is a scam, the term never ends and you never own it. They will also be so kind as to put a lien on your house without telling you. Good luck refinancing your mortgage!! For those who think it is your only option, find another way! Any other way! Trust me!! My furnace stops working at least twice a year during the winter, leaving me with no heat. When they first installed it, after waiting 8 months, it flooded my basement 3 times in the first week. The A/C also stops working every summer, the first year it took... More...

  • Billing Method

Reliance has been charging me for a three month period of which I don't like. I asked them almost a year ago that I would like to change it to monthly of which they told me they can. I then waited for the three months to expire and they charged me again for three months. I called them and thought okay this time they could get it right so again I waited for three months to expire and they billed me again for three months. I called them again and thought wow great customer service. I waited again for three months and again they billed me for three months. I called again and they... More...

  • Not Reliable!

Eight months ago we moved into our new house, and took over a water heater rental from Reliance Home Comfort. Then, a few months in, our water heater started leaking and they came for a service call. They came right away, and replaced the tank for 'free', but charged us $200 extra beyond the rental fee for a 2 inch pipe they had to replace (a pipe that they had installed to begin with)! We were very upset, but they refused to do anything about it. That is when we decided to start pricing out owning our own water heater. Less than 1 month later, we had issues with the new water... • No Service!

We rent a water heater from this Company that also heats our house as we have a heating system that relies on hot water. The rental tank broke and it's been about 1 week now and still no service. I've made about 7 calls and men come to the house unprepared and with the wrong equipment. My husband needs open heart surgery and just got back from the hospital, and we haven't had hot water or heat for a week. No one at Reliance HOme Comfort cares. This company has the worst service I've ever experienced. It doesn't matter who you speak seems to know what... More...

  • Reliance Protection Plans

I canceled my services with reliance 04/07/11. They are harassing me for money that I do not owe them. I switched to another provider and their equiptment was returned to them but they are still sending me bills?!! Now they are saying that I have to contact their Protection Plan Services by mail to cancel them? OMG!!!! I didn't have to do that to get the service so why should I have to do that now. They are trying to charge me a large cancelation fee and they have been paid by the other Company that I am using now, National Home Services which is a Canadian Company and this is my... More...

  • they scammed me

I originally had a Direct Energy water heater and a Reliance rep came to my door and said they worked for the company that bills me for gas (Enbridge) and that my water heater was over 10 years old and was going to be replaced for free (paid by the province). What they didn't tell me was that they were going to take over from the other company, then charge me more monthly plus some random miscellaneous fees which I can't seem to figure out because I can't get someone on the phone to explain them. They told me my monthly water heater and gas charges would go DOWN but guess... More...

  • Service, contracts, policies

For starters, those individuals who gave positive reviews either work for the company or have never experienced anything out of the ordinary with Reliance. In other words, commenting on the quick and clean installation is not a valid review because true customer service kicks in after you've signed the agreeement and installed the equipment, not when you are a new customer ready and willing to throw your money at them. Background information - I am moving into a home where the current owners have a lease agreement with Reliance for equipment and the term is up in approx. 4.5... More...

  • Renting - Bad Idea

Two weeks before I put an offer on a house, I called Reliance to inquire about their furnace rentals since the house I was looking at had a rental already installed. I was told that they couldn't discuss the furnace nor options (removal/buyout/monthly rate) but I was to call once I was in the house for arrangements. I stupidly believed the guy and put in the offer. After the offer was accepted, I get an email from my Realtor to contact Reliance. I called them and found out that I now either pay a monthly rate for the remainder of the contract or buy out the furnace and receive no... More...

  • Warning to consumers

This is a warning for anyone who has a Peak Saver thermostat installed in their home and has warranty coverage with Reliance Home Comfort. Reliance will not cover repairs to your furnace. On March 26 2010 my furnace broke down and I called Reliance to repair my furnace. Their representative came in and after his inspection said to call Peak Saver because their thermostat was broken.Because it was a cold day he showed me how to hotwire the furnace if I wanted heat. I chose to grab a couple of sweaters instead. A contractor from Peak Saver came in and reset the thermostat. It was not... More...

  • reliance home comfort

Comfort Protection Plan is a SCAM. Reliance sales person sold me the "Comfort Protection Plan". Feb. 2006. The sales pitch was a pack of lies. She basically said the Furnace and Air Conditioner were completely covered for all repairs @ 15.99 a month. They will send out a repair man and fix any problems. I thought it too good to be true so I asked several questions. November 2009 (after almost 4 years of payments) the Furnace wouldn't turn on. So I called Reliance, by the time the repair man arrived it was working. But he was quite happy to rip apart our Furnace... More...
