Renting - Bad Idea - Furnace and ac installation

Two weeks before I put an offer on a house, I called Reliance to inquire about their furnace rentals since the house I was looking at had a rental already installed. I was told that they couldn't discuss the furnace nor options (removal/buyout/monthly rate) but I was to call once I was in the house for arrangements. I stupidly believed the guy and put in the offer. After the offer was accepted, I get an email from my Realtor to contact Reliance. I called them and found out that I now either pay a monthly rate for the remainder of the contract or buy out the furnace and receive no warranty (I was told they were in the rental business and not the warranty one). They refused to remove the furnace. I called back repeatedly and asked to talk to a supervisor and was refused. I finally had a person call me back but they told me to contact my lawyer since it was "out of their hands". I did and the cost to litigate is more than the cost for the furnace.

Do not rental from these people. A seven year term with no ability to have it removed or canceled is a bad idea, especially if you are selling your house or going to purchase one with a rental unit. I have also had problems with their service with my water heater in the current house which makes me furious I have to pay this company any money for their predatory practices.

the fact is : if you buy house with rental furnice you wont get agreement from previus owner and also no agreement info form reliance before you muve to house( when is too late then) because " privacy. and then you have a option ( or no option) then to pay every month to the rest of your life ( we paid $ 150. every month) for the minimum of 84 month. and then we asked about buyout option ( was $ 7,200.00 - 5 yr ago) they told us that if we paid " minimum 84 months that will be much less to buyout . and is not! after 84 month ( minimum) you continue to pay monthly $ 150.00 and for buyout they asking $ 7,200. AFTER 7 YEAR IS STILL SAME PRICE !!! and with that plan you will pay and your kids will pay and your next generacion and still will be buy out $ 7,200.00!!! before i got nutz complitly I contacting my lawyer. I will press charge against Reliance

I'm looking into a rental with reliance and doing my homework I found your note. At first I was concerned, but after some investigation I realized that what you came up against was the privacy legislation. They will answer general questions regarding their rental agreements and warranty, just not specific to the homeowner at the time. All of their rental agreements are the same.. If you're renting its under full warranty, if not you're on your own once the furnace is more than 3 years old. Sorry you didn't understand, but I don't think that's reason to give up on renting a furnace. I think it's the way of the future. Actually if there is a problem with the furnace they will come and fix it at no cost to you. And now they do annual inspections, cleanings and filter changes at no cost.. Add all that to the fuel savings for having a new furnace in tip top working condition and the monthly rental cost pays for itself, plus you have peace of mind. Hope you enjoy the warranty.
